摘要:The use of veterinary drugs in food producing animals may result in low levels of the drugs or their metabolites being present as residues in food. The ingestion of antibiotic residues has been considered to affect the balance of the human intestinal microflora, although there is a paucity of epidemiological evidence to support this hypothesis. Recently additional concern has been raised about selection of antibiotic resistant bacteria within the gastrointestinal tract caused by the ingestion of antimicrobial residues. To assess the safety of ingested antimicrobial residues to the consumer, national and international committees evaluate data on the chemical, pharmacological, toxicological and antimicrobial properties of the veterinary drugs derived from studies of experimental animals and observations in humans.
