The focus of this study is comics and the possibilities of encouraging the reading of them in schools and libraries. The research is bibliographical, qualitative and exploratory in character, the result of a survey of projects and studies that used comics to form readers. Besides the historical trajectory of comics in Brazil and their lingusitic features, we sought to identify, in selected projects and works, the participation of librarians and teachers as mediators between the comics and the children. The research confirms the hypothesis that comics are very efficient resources as incentives to reading, as well as an important aid in teaching, helping to form more competent readers.
