The Educational Program for Health Work (PET-Saúde) is an important strategy for modifying health professionals' training and upgrading primary care. The Federal University in São Carlos, São Paulo State, together with the São Carlos Municipal Health Department, realized the program's importance and thus prepared and implemented the project, including representatives from the courses in nursing, physical therapy, medicine, and occupational therapy. The project's focus is the Family Health Strategy, thus emphasizing the importance of integrating students from different courses, tutors, and preceptors in teaching, research, and extension activities, with a focus on excellence, comprehensiveness, and case-resolving capacity in the consolidation of the Unified National Health System (SUS) in São Carlos. Within the Family Health Units, the project conducts regular activities with undergraduate students, training activities for preceptors linked to the Family Health Strategy, research aimed at upgrading primary care, and review of adequate protocols for primary care and the needs of the Unified National Health System, among other teaching, research, and extension activities.
