El artículo subraya la vigencia del trabajo artesanal en México fundamentalmente por su capacidad de ser flexible, pasando revista a las formas de trabajo, el lugar que ocupan dentro de la llamada microindustria que se define porque utiliza la fuerza de trabajo de no más de 15 personas. El concepto de artesanías es más incluyente que el que sólo discute la producción de objetos de la esfera tradicional de la producción rural o urbana para un mercado interno y turístico y le da un tratamiento económico y cultural.

Are Mexican craft workers permanent protagonists of the industry? The article emphasizes the validity of craftsmanship in México, especially for its flexibility. It reviews the existing occupations and the rank they have inside the so called "microindustria" (cottage industry: distinguished for its small workforce, of no more than 15 people). The concept of craftsmanship used here is more inclusive than others. It focuses in its economic and cultural angles, instead of discussing only the rural or urban production of objects for the internal or tourist markets.
