其他摘要:The use of information theory (uncertainty analysis) to quantify perceptual relationships is reviewed íor one series of studies, The redundancy of a set of visual petterns, defined in terms of the total population of patterns available, correlated highly with several hehavioral measures of pattern encoding, including ratings of pattern goodness, pattern grouping, latency, and uncertinty of pattem namíng, paired-associate leaming, ad partern discriminability. Developmental studies of the use of pattern redundancy, involving subjects from Brazil and from the United States, indicated increasing ability to use pattern redundancy in encoding with increasing age, with some additional indications of cultural differences. Directions for further study are suggested.
