摘要：La deserción escolar se agudiza en presencia de problemas socioeconómicos y perjudica a los jóvenes limitando sus conocimientos y desarrollo futuro. La literatura ha investigado la asistencia escolar así como las dificultades que enfrentan niños con capacidades diferentes, pero todavía no ha considerado si ésta se ve afectada cuando algunos de los padres presentan tales limitaciones. En este estudio se analiza esta problemática con base en una muestra de 598 jóvenes entre 14 y 17 años de edad del municipio de San Andrés Cholula (México). Las estimaciones del modelo probit con variables instrumentales enfatizan la importancia de la figura materna debido a que la deserción tiene una mayor probabilidad de manifestarse si la madre tiene capacidades diferentes o cuando presenta bajos niveles de escolaridad. No obstante, los jóvenes que residen en los hogares en los cuales la madre es jefa de familia, tienden a mostrar una mayor asistencia escolar.
其他摘要：Socio economic problems exacerbate school drop-out that harms youths by limiting their knowledge and future development. Scholars have investigated both the variables linked to school attendance and the problems faced by impaired children. However, it has not yet been considered whether school attendance is harmed when parents are impaired. In order to partially fill this gap, we test the hypothesis that parental disability increases school drop-out through a sample of 598 youths between 14 and 17 years old in the municipality of San Andrés Cholula (Mexico). The instrumental variables probit model estimates emphasize the importance of the mother¿s role, because when she is impaired or has a low level of schooling, a drop in children assistance is more likely to occur. However, children living in a mother headed household show higher school attendance.
