摘要:Introduction In this study we aim to evaluate the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis in psoriasis patients by comparing the sonographic measurement of common carotid artery intima media thickness of psoriasis patients to healthy individuals Materials and Methods 27 consecutive patients with diagnosed psoriasis and 29 healthy individuals were examined for common carotid artery intima media thickness by sonography. MannWhitney U test was used to analyse the presence of a difference of this measurement in psoriasis patients and control group. Results There was a statistically significant difference between the mean common carotid artery intima media thickness between the control group and the psoriasis patients (p:0,001). The mean common carotid artery intima media thickness was 0,54 ± 0,07 mm (range:0,42-0,69) in the control group; 0,95 ± 0,12 mm (range:0,81-1,28) in the psoriasis patients. Conclusion Psoriasis patients demonstrate higher carotid artery intima media thickness measurements compared to healthy individuals which can be used to assess the presence and progresssion of atherosclerosis in this disease.
