摘要:Objective: To evaluate the symptoms, complications of acute appendicitis and its management. Design: Descriptive case series. Setting: Surgical Unit-I, II and III of Chandka Medical College Teaching Hospital Larkana. Place and Duration: This study was conducted at Chandka Medical College Teaching Hospital, Larkana on all the patients admitted with right iliac fossa pain admitted through OPD and Casualty during the period of two years from 1st June 2007 to 31st May 2009. Materials and Methods: All patients admitted with right iliac fossa pain and diagnosed as acute appendicitis from 1st June 2007 to 31st May 2009 are included in this study. Results: A total of 110 patients of the ages 16 years to 65 years were admitted. Male to female ratio was 3:1. Majority of the patients presented with right lower quadrant pain. On examination tenderness was present in 45 patients (40.9%), tender mass in 39 patients (35.4%). We found normal total leucocytes count (TLC) in 65 cases (59%) and raised total leucocytes count (TLC) in 45 cases (40%). 20 patients (18%) presented with perforated appendix, 3 cases (2.7%) with gangrenous appendicitis and 5 patients (4.5%) with appendicular abscess. 20 cases (18%) presented with appendicular lump. Conclusion: Acute appendicitis is the commonest surgical emergency if operated in early phase has less complication rate.
