摘要:Objective: Study the response of the care taker, towards common paediatric problems. Methodology: Families visiting Hamdard University Hospital Nazimabad (Naimet Begum Hospital) were interviewed for their response towards the common paediatric problems as Diarrhea, Acute respiratory infections, and Rash (Measles). A predesigned proforma was used to collect basic demographic data from families, including number of family members, ethnic group, housing conditions, and response of the caretaker towards pediatric disease as diarrhea acute respiratory infections and rash (measles) during the last episode of these illnesses. Results: 43 % of preschool children suffered from acute respiratory tract infection. 34 % children suffered from acute diarrhea, and 23 % children suffered from rash as measles 66 % of preschool children suffering from acute respiratory infection were treated by qualified doctor, 16 % had treatment from local dispensary without consulting doctor, 12.2 % children were not treated. Children suffering from diarrhea 45 % children were taken to a qualified doctor, 20 % children had no treatment,16 % children were treated by Hakeem, 10 % had unknown drug treatment from local pharmacy, and 6 % had homeopathic treatment In cases of children suffering from rash like measles, 46 % children were treated by doctor, 44 % children were not taken to doctor Conclusion: Ignoring common pediatrics diseases, self medication and complementary method of treatment is alarming.
