摘要:Population growth and changes in eating habits constitute the forces behind the country's fast-growing feed industry. Mexico's annual consumption of livestock products-meat, dairy products and eggs-grew by 3.2 percent annually during the past seven years, and reached 17 million tons during 1997. This rapid growth in consumption has ensued from a rapidly expanding population and from a fastgrowing per-capita consumption. The country's population, now 96 million, grew by 1.96 percent annually during this period. Meanwhile, per-capita yearly consumption of livestock products went from 161.5 kilos in 1990 to 176.1 kilos in 1997, in spite of its significant drop in 1995 and 1996 for most products as a result of the economic crisis.
