摘要:This manual is an outgrowth of a series of medical library telecourses conducted by the Midwest Health Science Library Network. As such, it is intended to be a practical working text for the untrained hospital librarian in the Midwest. It covers the usual basic areas, such as library administration, circulation, book and serial acquisitions, cataloging, and interlibrary loan procedures, which can be found in any of several guides for hospital library management on the market today. The unique feature of this work is that it also includes pertinent local information, which is rarely available in one source. For instance, there is a description of the Midwest Health Science Library Network and another section for state information to be provided by each state coordinator in the region. Since much of this material could be quickly outdated, the authors have wisely chosen a looseleaf format which allows for substitutions of single updated pages or inclusion of additional chapters. Some of the anticipated additions are a new section on subject cataloging to include the latest changes in MeSH, a chapter on audiovisuals, and a much needed index to the entire volume. With these supplements and frequent revisions, the manual should be useful to Midwest hospital librarians for years to come.
