摘要:Australia was declared malaria-free by the World HealthOrganization in 1981. Locally acquired malaria is nowuncommon in north Queensland. During the 1990s, 4 casesof locally-acquiredPlasmodium vivaxmalaria were reportedfrom north Queensland, consisting of single cases in CapeYork1and Cairns2and 2 on Badu Island in the Torres Strait.3The Torres Strait however, has a real risk of malariatransmission due to its proximity to Papua New Guinea(PNG) where malaria is endemic. We report on alocally-acquired case ofP. falciparummalaria on DarnleyIsland in the Torres Strait
