摘要:One of the primary function and justification for the existence of Local Government is to provide services at the grass roots level, so as to reduce over dependence on state and federal governments. In spite of this important position in which local government is placed in the Nigerian constitution, these services are often not been adequately provided by many local government councils. It is against this background that efforts are being madeby the Federal Government and the major stakeholders in the country to improve Local Government performance particularly in services delivery. The study examined performance of local government councils in the Kaduna and Katsina states of Nigeria in termsof provision of health (immunization) and agriculture (fertilizer) services respectively. More importantly, we examinedareas that Local Governments in the two states that have better comparative advantage in delivering health (immunization) and agriculture (fertilizer) services respectively.
