El artículo se propone establecer algunas relaciones entre la acción del movimiento indígena ecuatoriano y la crisis política vivida por el país durante 1990-2001. El hilo conductor es la identificación y análisis de las interrelaciones entre la acción colectiva -la esfera de desenvolvimiento del movimiento social, su racionalidad estratégica y sus dinámicas de construcción identitaria- y, el régimen político -sistema de relaciones entre gobernantes y gobernados-, en un contexto de crisis política.

In this article, the author attempts toestablish some of the relations betweenthe Ecuadorian indigenous movementand the political crisis that has affectedthe country since 1990. The central themeis to identify and analyze the interrelationbetween: on the one hand, collectiveaction -the sphere of the development ofthe social movement, its strategicrationality and its dynamics for creatingidentities; and, on the other, the politicalregime -the system of relations betweengovernors and governed- within a context of political crisis.
