标题：Description and characterization of the natural alteration of chert artefacts from Atapuerca (Burgos, Spain), Cansaladeta (Tarragona, Spain) and Orgnac 3 (Ardèche, France)
摘要：Even though several authors have discussed the causes and mechanisms of chert alteration, a methodological description of the alteration itself hasn’t been done. This fact has contributed to a conceptual and terminological confusion. Trying to shed light on this problem, we undertook a description of chert alteration, at a different scale and using various techniques (macroscopic analysis, stereoscopic light microscopy, ESEM, EDX and density analysis) of both fresh and altered chert samples from the sites of Sierra de Atapuerca (Burgos, Spain), Cansaldeta (Tarragona, Spain) and Orgnac 3 (Ardèche, France). Based on the results of this study, we propose a terminology and a protocol of description for this kind of chert alteration
