摘要:This paper explores parental (particularly mothers') support in t he daily lives of chil-dren with allergies in a Swedish context. An ordinar y life is established by making comparisons to what other children without allergies presumably can do (and eat). Al-though the parents' goal is to support their child in managing allergies, neither their practical nor t heir interactional strategies work in a clear-cut direction to promote the child's ordinary life and identity. On the contrary, parents' accounts convey that they f unct ion just as much against an everyday life and the child's identity. W hen managing family relations, parent s expect immediate family members (specifically grandparents) to understand and accommodate the child's needs. However, claims of family responsibility are made through moral tales about lack of support from "generalized others." Family responsibilit y is also downplayed in par-ents' accounts as dema nds of support may put pa rents ' moral s elf at r isk . One of the conclusions that could be drawn from t his st udy is that claims of family support may be cont radictory to other cult ural principles that ascribe respon-sibilities between families and individuals, as the principles of individual freedom an d aut o n om y
