摘要:Irrigation projects have a positive effect on increasing the family income, foreign exchange, employment opportunities, better standards of living, education facilty, possession of productive and non-prodcutive assets and alike .An investigation was undertaken to assess the impact of irrigation project on life quality. Cluster of two villages were selected randomly The Ghataprabha Left Bank Canal (GLBC) area consists of six taluks having number of villages. From each stratum (head reach, mid reach and tail reach of GLBC)cluster of two villages were selected randomly from command(6villages)and non command area. Sixteen households were selected randomly from each village. Thus a total of 192 households were selected to study life quality and food security. Data on life quality parameters, socio-economic status, food consumption pattern, nutrient intake, at household level were collected by personally interviewing the respondents. The responses were quantified , classified tabulated and expressed in standard deviation mean percentages ,and significant difference between mean were presented in terms of student t test. The availability of amenities, public and educational facilities and households owning tiled, concrete and double storied houses were higher in command area compared to non-command area. Significantly higher percentage of households from command area possessed amenities (viz., radio, tape recorder, television, telephone and pumpset ). Nearly 60.42 per cent of the farmers of command area secured higher scores for life quality, while those from non-command area secured low scores and belonged to poor category (44.79%).
