Quality management is one of the most important phenomena of modern management science. Quality is the best argument in market competition, international trade and offering health services.

The objective of this article was the presentation of the handling of various terms: ‘management’, ‘quality’, ‘managing the quality of health/nursing care’. The measures of the quality of health/nursing care were also discussed, such as: standards, procedures and algorithms, as well as their importance for the provision of good practice.

Attention was paid to the weakness of ‘myths’ concerning the improvement of health care quality. These myths concern: quality of material and staff conditions, lack of resources for their improvement, quality vs. scientific achievements, quality vs. specialist surveillance, as well as quality and management.
