摘要:Introduction: Due t o t heir future jo b and the specificity of academic classes, the exposure to alcoho lic beverages const itutes the specific threat in t he case o f medical universit y students. Despite t his, the frequency o f alco ho l co nsumpt ion by this group of young peo ple has not been analyzed in det ail, thus far. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of alco hol co nsumption among st udents of the Med ical University of Bia. ystok. Materials and methods: The study was performed in March 2011 and included a representative group o f 504 student s from various facult ies of the Medical University of Bia.ystok. All participants co mpleted the standard ized, anonymo us quest ion-nnaire o n drinking alcoho l. Results: Only 14.4% of st udents reported never having tasted alcoho l. Beer was the most co nsumed drink by bot h genders. Almost 16% of respondents declared consuming alcohol at least 40 times in the last 12 mont hs. More than 60% of respondents report ed consu ming wine, spirit, o r beer at least one time in t he last month. Only a small percentage(2.8% - 5.4%) of students report ed consuming alcohol at least 10 times during the analyzed perio d. Half of the participant s report ed consuming five drinks per occasion. More than 15% o f respondents report ed alcoho l consumptio n at least 3-5 times per mo nth. Most respondents neither declared undertaking risky behaviors under the influence of alcoholic beverages nor admitted experiencing co nsequences of such behavio r. Conclusion: Pat terns of alcoho l consumpt ion among the students participating in t his stud y d o not differ markedly fro m po pulat ion-based characteristics o f the respective age group; they are still associated with specific risks result ing fro m studying medical disciplines and future emplo yment in a healthcare sector
