摘要：The term 'Malay feudalism' was first introduced by the Europeans, especially British scholars and colonial officials towards the beginning of the 19th century. It has been studied as an overt concept in 1968 by Syed Hussein Alatas. Since then, he has been recognized as a pioneer in the writing of the concept of 'Malay feudalism'. This paper analyses Syed Hussein's points of view on the concept and explains how his writing has been misinterpreted leading to many confusions among historians about the concept of 'Malay feudalism'.
