摘要:Camera surveillance technologies have been helpful in reducing criminal activity. At someinstances, such as the Virginia Tech shooting, where despite the camera systems were in place, tragedyoccurred, and the security officers were unable to reach the crime-scene. In traditional remote camerasurveillance systems, it is often difficult for security officers to quickly arrive at the scene. During thistime, the assailant(s) can cause damage and threaten many lives. To overcome this problem, this paperproposes a proactive surveillance system by augmenting standard camera surveillance technology withsimple weaponry for the purpose of disabling potential assailants. Furthermore, we present a model tocompute the utility of such weapon-equipped camera systems that integrates essential factors: weaponfeasibility, lethality, height, range, time and energy. This model is validated through simulation forvarious lethal and less-lethal weapons, which helps in selecting the weapon to be used for a givensituation
