摘要:In this study, effect of designed constructivist teaching approach about diffraction of light in a single-slit on students’ conceptual change was investigated with a pretest-posttest control group design. An achievement test, a conceptual understanding test and semi-structured interviews were used as data collection instruments. It was observed that control group students were unable to clarify the reason of calculating path difference and made mistakes in explaining how the path difference was found after teaching. Some students were found to preserve the idea that light bends at the ends of the slit and those bended light rays interfere while some others developed hybrid responses by composing wave and particle models of light. It was revealed that experimental group students reached higher levels of conceptual understandings than control group students considering their responses of explaining successfully the notions of path difference, order of bright and dark fringes on a screen and the change in fringe width.
