摘要:Background: Hepatitis B is the major infectiousdisease of mankind. It is the most commoncause of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis andhepato-cellular carcinoma World wide. Thehealth professionals are at the maximum risk.Vaccination against Hepatitis B can prevent thisdeadly disease. This survey was conducted toassess the knowledge and status of Hepatitis Bvaccination among the medical students ofB.J.Medical College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat,India.Methods: A cross-sectional study wasconducted among 150 medical students of II,III/I and III/II year Professional course.Pretested questionnaire were administered to 50students of each semester. Data was analyzedusing SPSS version 16.0.Results: 86.7 % of the medical students hadcorrect knowledge about Hepatitis B virus,though only 66 % of II year students knew aboutthe virus. Majority of the medical students hadcorrect knowledge regarding mode oftransmission. However, the knowledge wasfound to be less among II year students. Only20% of the II year students had the correctknowledge regarding Post Exposure Prophylaxisfor hepatitis B. 29.3% of the medical studentswere not vaccinated for Hepatitis B.Conclusion: The present study indicates thatthere is lack of awareness about Hepatitis B, itsroute of transmission and modes of preventionamong the medical students entering into theprofession. Similarly, all the students were notvaccinated against Hepatitis B, which makesthem vulnerable to the disease.
