摘要:Several scholarly works have examined role of the media in the development of presidential scandals, as well as the impact of these scandals on presidential approval ratings. In this study, we develop a model for predicting presidential scandals by examining certain measurable characteristics of the political environments that have produced presidential scandals in the years 1948-2000. The findings link the occurrence of presidential scandals with the performance of the economy and the presence of divided government. A strong economy creates favorable conditions for scandals. Divided government is shown to be an almost necessary condition for a presidential scandal to occur.
