摘要:In high speed networks, meeting the targeted performance is largely dependent on the total number and the placement of the optical amplifiers. An efficient design not only cuts down the network cost by minimizing the required number of amplifiers, but also effectively reduces the undesirable fiber nonlinearities and the end-toend OSNR (Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio) degradation on the propagating channels. In this paper analysis is done for the effect of optical amplifiers on the performance of ring networks using optsim simulation tool. The effect of amplifiers like SOA and EDFA on the Q factor of the signal and the number of users the ring network can support, is done here. It is observed that the performance of ring network is best with the EDFA as compared to SOA. The Quality factor and number of users supported comes out to be maximum in case of EDFA. The various methods of increasing the quality factor of ring network are analyzed like increasing the coupling ratio of the coupler, increasing the input power of the transmitter and the bias current of the amplifier.
