摘要:Advance versions of any Software systems tend to show better performance than its counterpart earlier versions. Due to increase in popularity and usability of open source softwares there is a continuous growth in development of Linux kernel as a result of which Linux is increasingly being employed in critical scenarios. In this paper growth in terms of failure frequencies of latest versions of Linux Kernel is studied and discussed in detail. Presently latest stable version of Linux kernel is kernel 2.6 series. The study is based on online failure data for latest version of Linux kernel that is kernel 2.6 series available on different online bug repositories. Collected Failure data is categorized in several major sub versions and failure frequency for all these sub versions are analyzed in detail. The analysis output shows that there is a decreasing trend in failure frequency and hence it indicates an excellent growth in Linux kernel development.
