摘要:Defining the distinctive features of the variety of English used in scientific contexts has been a special tendency in the past few years (Barber, 1962; Ewer and Latorre, 1969; Swales, 1984; Halliday, 1988; Reid, 1991, Harmer, 2001). This is so because English has emerged as the predominant medium of scientific discussion and progress, hence theoretical and practical applications on the teaching of English have become a powerful need in all parts of the world. Genres introduce certain stability into a discourse community and are flexible enough to participate in social changes, so from this point of view they function as language itself. Because of this, they have become key points in some investigations carried out in English for Special Purposes.
