摘要：No Timeu um sacerdote egípcio revela que muito antes do tempo de Platão a cidade de Atenas era a mais bem governada e possuía as melhores leis. Para além do Mediterrâneo outra civilização, a Atlântida, detinha riqueza e virtude em abundância, até o elemento divino dos seus reis dar lugar à imperfeição humana. A Atenas arcaica constituía a cidade ideal enquanto a Atlântida era o seu oposto. Argumentarei que a necessidade de uma cidade ideal está ligada ao contexto biográfico de Platão, a quem tanto a tirania como a democracia desapontaram profundamente. Comentarei a organização e estrutura social da Atenas arcaica e da Atlântida, a sua dimensão mítica, religiosa, e moral, finalizando com o possível significado do relato da Atlântida. Enquadrarei ainda este relato no contexto bibliográfico do filósofo ateniense, analisando as principais continuidades e rupturas com a República, e usando os diálogos Crítias, Político, e As Leis na minha argumentação.
其他摘要：In the Timaeus an Egyptian priest reveals that long before the time of Plato the city of Athens was the most well governed and possessor of the best laws. Beyond the Mediterranean another civilization, Atlantis, possessed richness and virtue in abundance until its kings’ divine element give place to human imperfection. Whilearchaic Athens embodied the ideal city, Atlantis was its opposite. I shall argue that the necessity of an ideal city is connected with Plato’s biographical context, to whom both tyranny and democracy have disappointed deeply. I shall comment on the organization and social structure of both archaic Athens and Atlantis, their mythical, religious, and moral dimension, concluding with the possible significance of the Atlantis account. Furthermore I shall put this account into Plato’s bibliographical context, analysing the main continuities and disruptions with Republic, and making use of the dialogues Critias, Politicus, and Laws in my arguing.
