摘要:European Union has been dealing with the migration phenomenon for a very long time. However, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, in 1989, this topic has proved to be more present than ever. Backed by the economic crisis and by the failure of the national elites to find optimal solutions for facing the emergence of new local communities, the issue expanded. Therefore, we presently have to deal with the need of the local elites to justify the imposition of some increasingly restrictive political practices. In Italy for instance, starting with 2007, the „stranger” slowly came to be substituted by „immigrant”; a stereotype eventually giving rise to a powerful psychosis concerning Romanian immigrants, by and large. The introducing of false concerns on the political agenda was a direct consequence of the political action which marked out the „Romanian problem” as the tagline for the 2008 Parliamentary elections.
