摘要:The field of stem cell research has had a varied and turbulent history around the globe. For some, including scientists and clinicians, it heralds an exciting era of discovery and the potential to answer complex questions about human development and disease. For others, including patients and their loved ones, it represents the last hope in often desperate circumstances. For yet others, it engages and challenges deeply held beliefs regarding the point at which human life begins and boundaries of acceptable research. Indeed, few areas of science have been the subject of the same degrees of both accolade and controversy as has stem cell research.1
