摘要：Fruit of his doctoral thesis, the book of Arlei Damo presents rigorous ethnography to analyze the process of football players’ development in Brazil and France. The gift, a widely used notion in the football environment, appears as a central axle of the book, therefore it provides the base to understand the process of development of the Brazilian players in the context of what the author calls of spectacular football. By passing through the ways to become a football player, Damo discusses pertinent questions to understand the complexity of the phenomenon football in the society
