Diversity and differences have always been refused. However, in the last few years, differences have been enhanced. It is necessary to examine the effects that difference produce in the social imaginary. The connection between difference, fear and relationships that are established with others in the public field is specifically examined. Paying attention to differences between people leads to a situation in which other people appear as strangers who make fear arise. Those strangers appear as a social and political threat, and control strategies that lead to stigmatization of those who carry them are configured.
