摘要:Background: This study describes the characteristics of flu type A, in a pandemic context, in patients with acute respiratory sickness in a Nicaraguan hospital. Method: Descriptive study of the clinical and epidemiological data of those patients with a positive antigen detection test for influenza type A in a nasal sample. Confirmation for a novel influenza A (H1N1) virus was made by the Ministry of Health of Nicaragua. Results: From June 3rd to June 25th 2009, 732 patients were evaluated for acute respiratory disease, all these patients were tested for the detection of influenza type A antigen. 134 (18.3%) patients had a positive antigen detection test, 68 ofthese were confirmed with the subtype A (H1N1) by the Ministry of Health. Only 29.9% of the patients had an epidemiological link with other patient with acute respiratory sickness or history of travel to geographical areas reporting cases. The more frequent symptoms were fever, cough, nasal congestion, malaise, sneeze, sore throat, and headache. Conclusion: The epidemiological feature of the cases with flu type A in this hospital showed a pattern of local transmission more than of imported cases. The clinical manifestations were characteristic of flu, without any severe cases.
