摘要:Given the increases in depressive symptoms and suicidal behaviour among North American youth in recent years, depression is arguably the most prevalent and serious form of psychopathology experienced by adolescents today. Traditionally, there has been little differentiation between child and adolescent depression in the literature despite theoretical arguments and empirical evidence to the contrary. This article provides an overview of the nature of depression in adolescents and examines various intervention approaches used to treat adolescent depression. The evidence regarding the effectiveness of medical and psychological approaches such as pharmacotherapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, family therapy, and interpersonal therapy is critically reviewed. Additional considerations that may guide treatment selection such as comorbidity, gender, and multicultural issues are also discussed. Future directions for research into the treatment of adolescent depression are briefly presented.
