摘要:In this paper, we use the Verhulst logistic equation to model the population dynamics of a bearded pig population in a logged-over planted forest in Sarawak, Borneo Island. Using available information on the population, we generate a set of potential growth data for a pair of adult bearded pigs. Based on the data, we obtain two parameters of the logistic model, namely, the intrinsic growth rate r of the managed population and the carrying capacity K of the environment. Two harvesting strategies, constant effort versus constant quota strategy for maximum sustainable yield of the natural resource, are then considered; for system stability, the former harvesting strategy is preferred over the latter. However, as it may take some time for the benefits of implementation of an alternative harvesting policy to be realized, the cooperation of all stakeholders is paramount and necessary for the management strategy to succeed.
