摘要:Regardless of being common and having a widespread distribution, only few nesting records for the American Krestel
(Falco sparverius) have been published for South America. Herein, we report the development of chicks and parental care
in a nest of the American Krestel in southwestern Ecuador. The nest was a cup of natural fiber located on a tree of Yucca
guatemalensis (Agavaceae) and had four chicks at the time the nest was discovered. Nestling feeding was conducted by
both parents and food items consisted of vertebrates (lizards, colubrids) and invertebrates (beetles, grasshoppers, spiders,
and earthworms). A dependence period of more than 32 days was estimated. Monitoring ended with predation of the
chicks
