摘要:This article presents a procedure for carrying out contrastive segmentation analysis, a
research method used in second language acquisition and learning which enables the
development of a hypothesis in relation to a learner’s interlanguage. The article starts by
explaining the role of contrastive linguistics and the relevance of phonetic competence
in second language learning. It continues with a four-phase protocol, in which the first
and second phases respectively suggest a model to describe and contrast the phonetic
systems of the target language and the learner’s mother tongue. The third phase
presents a hypothesis of work derived from the contrastive analysis, and the fourth
provides empirical verification of the theory presented.
