标题：JEANETTE WINTERSON Y EL LENGUAJE DE LA ENFERMEDAD. A PROPÓSITO DE WRITTEN ON THE BODY (1992)

摘要：Desde sus primeras novelas la escritora británica Jeanette Winterson ha concebido las palabras como instrumentos para explorar territorios de difícil acceso. En Oranges Are not the Only Fruit (1985) se adentró en la sombría parcela de una infancia marcada por la religión; en The Passion (1987) examinó las complejas relaciones entre las figuras de autoridad y sus subordinados. Con Written on the Body (1992) se enfrenta a la tarea de describir el mundo de la enfermedad. Como la propia autora ha señalado “Las enfermedades, especialmente en casos como el cáncer o el SIDA, rompen las barreras de nuestro sistema inmunológico, imponiendo un nuevo ser en nosotros, que a menudo no reconocemos. Nuestro territorio ha sido invadido, de repente estamos divididos en zonas sanas y en zonas de metástasis”. El objetivo de este artículo es el de hacer una primera aproximación al lenguaje empleado por la autora para encarar la enfermedad de una de las protagonistas del libro, con quien la voz narradora mantiene una relación afectiva. Se considerará el lenguaje de la enfermedad en el contexto de esta relación, pues Winterson parte de un concepto del amor en el que se integran tanto su capacidad de curación como de destrucción. Para llevar a cabo esta aproximación y para poder establecer paralelismos entre la concepción del lenguaje de la enfermedad desde el punto de vista de la ficción y desde una perspectiva más social y real tomaremos como punto de referencia los trabajos, entre otros muchos, de Susan Sontag La Enfermedad y sus Metáforas; El Sida y sus Metáforas (1977) y de Michel Foucault El Nacimiento de la Clínica: una Arqueología de la Mirada Médica (1981).

Abstract
JEANETTE WINTERSON AND THE LANAGUAGE OF DISEASE. ON PURPOSE OF WRITTEN ON THE BODY (1992)
From the very beginning, Jeanette Winterson has considered words as an essential means to explore fields/territories not easy to access. In Oranges Are not the Only Fruit (1985), she tells the reader the life of the main character marked by the influence of religion. In The Passion (1987), she examined the complex relationships between authority and its subordinates. In Written on the Body (1992), she describes the world kept inside a particular disease. As Jeanette Winterson has claimed ‘Disease, especially a disease like cancer or aids, breaks down the boundaries of the immune system and forces a new self on us that we often don't recognise. Our territory is eaten away. We are parcelled out into healthy areas and metastasised areas’. The main objective of this article is to analyse the language employed by the author in order to face one of the protagonist’s disease, with whom the narrator keeps an emotional relationship. The language of disease will be considered within the context of this relation due to the fact that Winterson herself considers the idea of ‘love’ as a concept that involves not only its capacity to heal but to destroy. In order to carry out this analysis as well as to establish paralelisms between the language of disease conceptions from the view point of fiction and from a more realistic and social perspective, we will take as reference point the works written by Susan Sontag Illness as Metaphor and AIDS and Its Metaphors (1977) and Michel Foucault’s The Birth of the Clinic: An Archaeology of Medical Perception (1981), among others.
