摘要:The present text is articulated around two plans: at the same time it gathers brief observations concerning more recent productions related to the social image of teaching, it analyzes a corpus of published photographs taken on Teacher's Day, by the press of the city of Rio de Janeiro from 1950s to 1960s, which exam allows us to apprehend the maintenance of elements that represent the profession in a strongly idealized way, emphasizing the affectionate dimension of the pedagogic relationship and the nobility of the educational mission and putting work conditions on a second plan. In analyzing photographs of teachers which were published by newspapers from different profiles in different moments of Brazilian history, we intended to contribute to enlarge the understanding that the teachers (mainly the ones who are still in process of initial formation) have about the way they represent their own work, favoring the capacity of questioning how the meanings that socially identify them are built.
