  • 摘要:The Malachite Sunbird Nectarinia famosa occurs in South Africa from the Western Cape Province, north-east along the Drakensberg escarpment of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces (Maclean 1993; Fraser 1997). In the Western Cape Province the species is confined mainly to upland fynbos, occurring less commonly in restionaceous vegetation. Further east Malachite Sunbirds are found in grassland, karoo vegetation and riverine shrub (Fraser 1997; Cheke & Mann 2001). There is an isolated population in the Zimbabwean Eastern Highlands and adjacent Mozambique (Fraser 1997). Throughout the sub-region Malachite Sunbirds are nomads, with some suspected altitudinal movements, where they track flowering food resources in their range (Brown & Barnes 1984; Craig & Hulley 1994; Johnson & Maclean 1994; De Swardt 2001; Symes et al. 2001). It has been speculated that the birds move from higher altitudes of the Drakensberg escarpment in Lesotho to lower altitudes of the eastern Free State and midlands of KwaZulu-Natal (Brown & Barnes 1984; Johnson & Maclean 1994; Symes et al. 2001). De Swardt & Schoeman (1997) have also noted the absence of Malachite Sunbirds in the mountains around
