摘要:U.S. trade in processed foods
(the sum of imports and
exports) in 1996 rose 6.5 percent
from 1995¡ªsomewhat smaller
than the 10.7- and 8.6-percent jumps
of the previous 2 years, but strong
nonetheless.
Imports led the growth in 1996.
Processed food imports averaged a
4-percent annual growth rate over
the previous 5 years, but grew an
astounding 11.2 percent in 1996 to
$27.8 billion. Exports, by comparison,
grew only 2.5 percent to $30.1
billion, well below their average
growth rate for the past 5 years.
