摘要:This paper analyzes the evolution of regional public spending in Spain since the early eighties. Both the level and composition of Spanish public spending has converged towards European Community standards. At the same time, public spending –but not taxes- has been deeply decentralized. Moreover, spending decentralization has been done at different rhythms depending on political and legal constraints. According to available results, decentralization is not responsible for the increase in total public spending in Spain. Finally, composition of public expenditure differs across regions, revealing diversity of preferences.
