摘要:The purpose of this text is to present a methodological discussion on the challenges of doing research in cyberspace. The research project concerns the meanings of risk for Brazilian youngsters in the context of illegal car races. In this case, connecting the field research to research carried out on the Internet, turned out to be a positive strategy in order to face the difficulties that occurred in the field as it concerns an illegal practice that takes place ad hoc, without a prearranged time or space, in the heat of the moment, or is, communicated in a codified way among its closest practitioners. The analysis presented highlights some of the limits and possibilities of conducting a field research on the Internet as well as discusses some of the specificities of ethnographic work carried out in this context: data gathering, the writing of the field notebook and the difficulty in moving from "observation" (the reading of discussion lists) to "participation" (interaction with the participants of the group).
