摘要：“Doctrine of Demons” - Abstract Alarmed by proposals for better treatment for animals, those who profit from their exploitation vilify animal advocates as the ultimate danger, a movement so powerful and violent that it is poised to destroy the very foundations of Western culture and depose “Man” from the center of the universe. Some themes of this discourse are investigated. While animal advocacy is frequently attacked as a leftwing conspiracy, many on the left overlook connections between concern for animals and for human beings. Many are willing to allow exploitation of animals to continue, justifying this on the same anthropocentric basis. . Rather than accepting the anthropocentric and instrumentalist views of the animal exploitation industries, progressive thought on the left should embrace a more compassionate view towards animals and strive for a more inclusive version of social justice that includes nonhuman animals as well as humans.
