摘要:With the increasing popularity of logistics outsourcing, the 3PL industry has changed rapidly in order to meet customer needs. Shippers are seeking more complete solutions and are taking contract renewal decisions based on service quality. 3PLs are compelled to reformulate strategies that will enable them to improve the performance and profitability of their business as well as to make choices regarding the services offered and the niches they will play in. In this context, the purpose of this study is to determine whether it is possible to differentiate 3PLs operating in the Brazilian market according to their service capabilities. To answer this question, a questionnaire was sent to 118 companies that form part of the Panorama de Operadores Logísticos, published by the Revista Tecnologística in June, 2005. It was confirmed that there are four distinct types of 3PLs that differentiate themselves based on the level of capability they have to offer (1) transportation services, (2) inventory and warehousing services, (3) value-added services, and (4) legislation-related services. There is speculation that these four types of 3PLs represent different stages through which a 3PL passes from the moment it begins to offer basic services until it develops all service capabilities and becomes a one-stop shop for its clients.
