摘要:We report the establishment of a population of Lonchura malacca in the upper Magdalena valley in the municipalities of
Ibague, Piedras and San Luis (Tolima). In this study we documented size of groups, distribution, habitat, behaviour, diet,
reproductive activity and morphometric data. L. malacca frequents grasslands, agricultural fields, including rice paddies
(Oryza sativa) and riverside forests in Tropical Dry Forest (bs-T) life zones; its current distribution in the department of
Tolima covers an area of nearly 10,462 hectares. L. malacca shows gregarious behaviour, with groups averaging 3 to 30
individuals. Groups were observed feeding on Oriza sativa and Urochloa maxima. The consumption of Sorghum bicolor
was evident from stomach contents of a collected specimen. The present conditions of the area as well as anthropogenic
factors such as crops have favoured the establishment of L. malacca, which could have negative impacts on resident
species birds and plants. The species could be considered as an eventual pest of productive systems.
