摘要:Agreater proportion of U.S.
children and adolescents are
overweight than ever before.
This has sounded a public health
alarm. Overweight children are
much more likely to end up obese
when they are adults. Obesity in
adulthood is a known risk factor for
chronic diseases, including heart
disease, diabetes, high blood pressure,
stroke, and some forms of cancer.
According to articles in a 1999
issue of the Journal of the American
Medical Association, 280,000 annual
deaths in the United States are
attributable to obesity, and obesityrelated
diseases may account for 6.8
percent of U.S. health care costs.
