标题：Validating results from the model ROMS (Regional Ocean Modelling System), with respect to volume transports and heat uxes in the Nordic Seas

摘要：A 25 year hindcast carried out with the model ROMS (Regional Ocean Modelling System) is validated by a quantitatively comparison between the model results and observations on temperatures and volume transports in the Nordic Seas. ROMS is a three-dimensional ocean general circulation model that uses a topography-following coordinate system in the vertical and orthogonal curvilinear coordinates in the horizontal. In several key sections investigated, including the Greenland-Scotland Ridge, the Sviny section and the Fram Strait, the average modeled volume transports are within the uncertainties of observations. However, the model results show a larger variability than observations, both seasonally and interannually. The correlation between the NAO-index and the Atlantic inow into the Nordic Seas is rather low, suggesting other possible driving forces than local winds. The temperature elds are well reproduced, and the heat uxes through the sections investigated are comparable with estimates based on observations. An increased northward heat ux through the Fram Strait in the 1990s, which caused a warming of the Arctic, is reproduced by the model. Also single events such as volume transport anomalies on monthly time scales are captured in the model results.
