The main goal of this study was to facilitate the entrance into adolescence of a group of 20 teenagers from 11 to 13 years old, that went regularly to a ONG located in a neigborhood of São Paulo city, during the second semester of 2003. Nine meetings took place, lasting approximately one hour each, one meeting per week. In these meetings, many activities were carried out to facilitate the acceptance of new corporal scheme and new ways of thinking. A “Self-Concept Scale”, elaborated by the authors and adapted from the “Self-Concept Scale - ERA” (Corona, 1999), was used to evaluate the program. The instrument, composed by 16 affirmations that allow to evaluate physical self-concept and psychological self-concept, was used in the first and last meeting. It was observed that the averages obtained by the group in the post-test were higher than the averages obtained in the pre-test. However, the differences were not statistically significant, which does not allow to conclude that the program generated a significant development on the physical and psychological self-concept of these teenagers. We suppose that the difficulties found in order to do all the activities may have contributed for such result, as well as the instrument used is no yet validated. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the group concerning the program was very positive.
