摘要：Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), has been used as a similar technology alternative to bar codes in the identification of objects. We claim that it won’t return the high investments if applied that way. Instead, there is a need to analyze the business process surrounding the application and its influence in the information systems.
RFID has been presented as a great issue in information control, even applied to manufacturing goods or to heap collections (from items such as movies, books, news, pictures, economic reports, etc.). However, there is a new perspective to go beyond the facet classification of material, and reach over a short semantic description of its contents. This would be a good answer to the expectation raised around the functionality of RFID tags. On the other hand, the proposal of new scenarios for these applications has developed slowly compared to the parallel development of hardware tools in this area. This work discusses this detachment, focusing on the life cycle of new applications associated with information systems, especially to the control of heap collections. Difficulties are analyzed in a case study of the management of a university library, taking as a target the main library main Escola Politécnica - USP.
